Our services
DigitalLabs has experience in diverse technologies. We can provide dedicated professional services, or manage a team of students at set points during the academic year.
If you would like to engage us in your project, please get in touch.
Lunchtime coffee
Have an idea for a digital product or service that you would like to sound out? Get in touch, and come for a cuppa (OK, it doesn’t have to be coffee) and a chat.
We can provide a critical ear and places to go next.
Professional Services
Consultancy
Need to work on a bid which requires understanding of data protection obligations? How about some training? Are you beginning a project which needs due diligence and impact assessment? We can listen, research and supply documentation to your specification. We’re pretty approachable as a rule and our workshops are held in the friendly surroundings of The Shed.
Project Work
DigitalLabs is available for the complete bespoke package. Our stock-in-trade is listening first. Then we’ll try and find a solution to your problem which is cost-effective, scalable and maintainable, within the parameters you set. Please contact us to arrange a lunchtime coffee and we can talk further. Meanwhile, please take a look at our portfolio
Design Sprint
Need to flesh out a product idea for a Minimum Viable Product estimate? We can provide you with a design sprint: 3 half-day workshops, with software engineers and specialists sourced from within the Universtiy, leading to a work-up, design and estimate, which can be taken and compared with others, allowing you to make an informed choice of development partner.

Managed Live Projects
Do you have an itch to see what your idea might look like for real? Let us provide your brief to our students, and mentor them over 6 months. For free!
Live Projects are the way our Second Year Professional Development students get experience on their first technical project. We help them build their team, work with them to manage their tasks and research the technologies they will need. Then we support them as they develop your project idea from basic requirements into a realisable design and on to a concrete product.
Submit your idea before September. If your application is successful, we’ll contact you between September and October, to finalise a brief. We’ll keep you updated on progress until March when you’ll be invited to see your creation at the Project Showcase.

Managed Jobs4Students
If you’re a researcher, or community group with funding, you might be interested in employing DigitalLabs to mentor a team of students over the summer’s 12 week academic break.
Get in touch before April, and we’ll be able to warn students in advance, before advertising the posts for a May-June start.

Managed Internships
If you are thinking of a longer term project, sponsoring an internship will give you the advantage of a graduate in a professionally mentored envrionment. Your project will be managed by DigitalLabs, with the main design and development work done by the student.
Internships last for between 6 and 12 months. Get in touch before April, and we’ll be able to warn students prior to graduation, before advertising the posts for a May-June start.

Pipelining
We employ students at various stages throughout their development. Employing a team in a Live Project can lead to paid employment through the summer vacation, via a Jobs4Students project. This can lead to an internship.
If you have a long-term project aspiration, it could make sense for you to use a Live Project at no cost to figure how how it might work, and then use a paid summer vacation project to build a prototype. This could lead to funding an internship for 6 months to a year to flesh out your product.
